The Scientific Methodology for All (SMFA) is a social technology created to awaken the scientific curiosity in students and to prepare teachers to guide them in developing scientific projects, created from the students' own ideas, thus stimulating their creativity, self-confidence and leadership. It’s been applied for more than eight years in more than 100 schools in the Brazilian Semiarid Region, one of the poorest areas in the country. More than 2,000 teachers were trained in using this technology, providing the opportunity for over 10,000 young students to develop scientific projects based on their own ideas. Many of them had the chance to present their brilliant ideas in national and international science fairs.
Contexto que possibilitou o desenvolvimento do projeto
Traditionally the schools provide a scientific education distant from the scientist perspective. The scientific knowledge is generally presented as something static and dogmatic. Adding to this fact that teacher formation in scientific method is deficient or absent, the scenario is thus totally unfavorable to the formation of a new generation of good scientists, who will not only be science and technology consumers but will be knowledge developers also. SMFA challenges this reality

For more than 8 years, SMFA has improved the scientific education of over 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers in the Brazilian Semiarid Region.

SMFA is applied in more than 100 basic education public schools in the Brazilian Semiarid Region, Specifically in the Rio Grande do Norte State in Brazil.
Resultados alcançados com o projeto em números
SMFA increases teachers' confidence in guiding students in their own projects and also students' expectation towards being a scientist or pursuing an university degree. This project has provided training for over 2,000 teachers and more than 10,000 students in learning scientific method by developing projects based on their own ideas. These students have earned more than 40 national and international science fair prizes.
SMFA is certified as a social technology (2013 and 2017) by the Brazilian Bank Foundation, has received the 2013 Paulo Freire prize in innovation in teacher formation from the Program for Support for the Educational Sector of Mercosur and the Creative Learning Fellowship from MIT Media Lab and Lemann Foundation in 2017
Mecanismos de sustentabilidade implementados
SMFA was designed to be applied in different school environments and required low investment to be implemented. It considered the schools own resources to the Project development and Science fair execution.
